About Lingo Staffroom
A small independent editorial team writing about qualifications and careers for language teachers. Here is how the site is made, how it earns money, and what to do when we are wrong.
What we publish
Practical guides for people who teach languages or want to: teaching certificates such as TEFL, CELTA and qualifications for German as a foreign language, starting out as an online tutor, tutoring platforms and their fees, setting your rates, jobs abroad, CVs, taxes for freelancers, specialisms, and professional development. Everything appears in English and German.
We deliberately do not cover teaching methodology, lesson planning or classroom tools. Our sister site didacticlang.eu is the place for those topics.
A private guide with no link to this domain's past
Lingo Staffroom is a private, commercial publication. It is not an institution of the European Union, not a publicly funded project and not part of any consortium. Between 2011 and around 2014 this domain hosted an EU-funded project website for language teachers; after that project ended, the domain was used for unrelated purposes and later parked. We have no connection to that project, its partners or anyone involved in it, and we do not use its name, logo or materials.
How we work
- Sources first. Course providers' and examination bodies' own information, platform help pages and terms, official government pages for visas and taxes. Where we describe common practice rather than rules, we say so.
- Dated facts. Course prices and platform fees change often. Time-sensitive statements carry the month they were checked.
- Comparisons are editorial assessments. We compare courses and platforms on documented criteria such as course hours, tutor feedback, teaching practice, fee model and price. We do not publish invented test results or star ratings.
- No tax or legal advice. Pages on taxes, visas and contracts give general orientation. For your own situation, ask a tax adviser or the relevant authority.
- Corrections. Substantiated errors get fixed. Significant changes are noted on the page.
How the site is funded
Lingo Staffroom is funded by advertising and by partner links to some of the course providers and platforms we describe. If you book something after following a partner link, we may receive a commission; the price is the same for you either way. Partner links are marked.
No provider pays for a mention, a position or a verdict, and no provider sees an article before it is published. Where a cheaper or free route is the better choice, we say so.
Who writes this
The site is written and edited by a small team rather than by named individual authors, and we do not attach personal bylines or invented credentials to the pages. Editorial responsibility sits with the operator named in the imprint.
